Leading with Purpose

Zach Shank’s appointment as head coach of the Trinity Eagles men’s basketball team in 2024 was a full-circle moment.

A former player for the Eagles, Shank now leads the same program that helped shape his own life and faith as a college student at Trinity.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return and coach at the place where I once played,” he says. “Being able to support these athletes as they prepare for life beyond the game—having real conversations about adult decisions and offering guidance—has been a true blessing,” Shank reflects.

Expanding his influence, Shank recently accepted a leadership position as Director of Athletic Operations for the Sunshine State Athletic Association.

The remote nature of the role is an ideal complement to his Trinity Eagles coaching position.  His involvement with the SSAA allows him to develop professional connections for his players at a state-wide level. With many Eagles players pursuing degrees in business or sports management, Zack sees his role within the SSAA being a direct asset to their professional development.  By growing their connections, Trinity Eagles graduates can expect to discover varied and meaningful job opportunities after college.

Looking ahead, Shank is focused on growth for the Eagles, both on and off the court.

As Trinity Eagles head coach, he continues to focus on building a strong program. One way he does this is by being present for his players in team settings and spiritual mentorship. He takes a personal interest in using his network to inspire his athletes to be life-long disciples of Christ and make valuable professional connections.

This past season, Eagles players met Eagles alumni John Risk, Preston May, and Tyler McNulty.  These alumni standouts in the Trinity program continue to represent the Eagles family with and lead with excellence after graduation.

Shank’s priority for this upcoming season is to continue to build a culture of positivity and intentionality within the team and program.

“While winning is always a goal, our greater mission is to develop strong Christian leaders—young men who will make a lasting impact in their communities long after their playing days are over.”

Zach Shank is a 2014 graduate of Trinity’s Secondary Education program. He married fellow Trinity alumnus, Emily (Brindley), and together they have two children: Lennon and Wells.
